Frequently asked questions

This is a section created with the objective of guiding the research team, to facilitate the application to the R&D to Innovate Competition.

You must fill out a brief profile on our online platform. In this first stage, the eligibility of the project will be evaluated, according to the rules. Then, if selected to move on to the next stage, a complete project will be requested.

No, the Foundation will not take ownership of the technological venture that may be generated as a result of the project. The Foundation will only participate in the eventual future benefits generated by the technology developed by the project. This participation varies between 25% and 35%, according to the level of technological development (TRL) at the time of application. In short, the Foundation only participates in the royalties obtained from the licensing of the technology and not in the ownership of the company that exploits the technology.

The Foundation will participate in the IP generated only in the proportions of 25% to 35% depending on the level of technological development (TRL) at the time of application.

Yes, the Beneficiary may be any natural or legal person (companies, universities, research or excellence centers, start-ups, etc.), with domicile within the Chilean national territory.

A project is eligible as long as it has developed at least one proof of concept with empirical evidence or intermediate results that can be verified. In other words, at the time of applying, the project must be at least TRL 3.

It corresponds to a measurement system developed by NASA used to evaluate the maturity level of a particular technology. Each project is analyzed according to the parameters of each level and is assigned a TRL rating based on its progress at the time of application. The TRL has nine levels of scientific-technological development listed from TRL 1 to TRL 9. It is important to note that the Project reaches a specific TRL level when it meets all the requirements of that level and succeeds in completing the evaluated activities. For example, a Project achieves TRL 4 when the proof of concept is successfully validated in a controlled environment.

Yes, the Project Manager or Alternate Manager can belong to more than one project within the same competition or even from different competitions.

Although the letter of commitment does not need to be attached in the first stage (Profile), it must be submitted in the second stage (Project). For this reason it is important to begin to manage it from the beginning.

It is important that the application is made on the basis of a project whose progress will be made in 2 years and with the budget mentioned in the bases (UF 4,000). The extension will be analyzed and awarded at the end of the 2 years and if the Project has met all the agreed milestones, following a procedure communicated in due time.
